Commercialisation
Science, technology and innovation are
vital to economic and social progress. In an increasingly
globalised world, it is recognised that high levels of investment
in research and innovation are essential, both for economic
competitiveness, and to yield innovations in areas such as
healthcare and environmental technologies which make tangible
improvements to the quality of life.
Commercialisation is the innovative use of intellectual property
and know-how to provide products and services from science,
knowledge transfer plays a key role in delivering these. In
parallel with the governments' investment in science, there needs
to be an effective knowledge exchange between research and the
market to ensure that good research becomes good business. Within a
modern, knowledge driven economy, knowledge transfer is about
transferring good ideas, research results and skills between
universities, other research organisations, business and the wider
community to enable innovative new products and services to be
developed
